Rope Rescue

This course is designed to introduce participants to the basic principles of rope technique, implementing safe rope systems, determining rescue strategies and developing and implementing rescue plans.

Participants are first introduced to the Occupational Health and Safety requirements for safe work at heights and how to implement strategies to avoid incidents.

Emphasis then moves to understanding key areas such as types of loading, anchor systems, determining equipment capabilities, mechanical advantage systems and raising and lowering techniques. These and other principles are presented using a variety of equipment, as used commonly within the workplace.

Participants learn to develop basic rope rescue strategies for vertical and horizontal applications; dealing with conscious and unconscious patients, and utilising methods including pulley systems, z-drags and stretcher rigs.

This course is heavily focused on the practical application of skills, providing participants with hands on opportunities to learn and develop techniques in realistic environments. Scenarios gradually escalate in difficulty and with increasing time constraints, to build confidence, team work and independence in rope rescue operators.
